HULL SPECIFICATIONS&PRICE LIST 3/2005
HULL ASSEMBLY The one piece hull is hand-laid in GRP.
The materials have been selected to offer the best possible
protection for a polyester-based
laminate. Above the
waterline, the gelcoat is pigmented with the owner's choice of colour
. Below the waterline, the gelcoat is clear. A combination of
Isopthalic gelcoat, Vinylester, Isopthalic resin, powderbound mat,
standard mat and woven roving mat is used. Certificates of conformity
will be supplied on request.
The glass reinforcement has a
thickness of 23 oz/sq. ft overall; 44 oz/sq. ft in the keel

positions may be modified to suit individual accommodation layouts.
To include stempost, beamshelf , main deck beams, main bulkheads.
Optional Twaron inserted at the time of production under the

TYPICAL STANDARD SPECIFICATION
HULL: As per specification in price list.
Two tonnes of
ballast is laid along the length of the keel and is encapsulated in
pitch and then coated over with GRP.
TOPSIDES: The deck is fixed to the hull by a hardwood
beamshelf fastened to the hull edge. Eight 3" x3" deck
beams are half lapped to the beamshelf.
The deck consists of two
layers of marine ply, epoxied together and epoxy-scrimmed on top. The
overlap onto the hull is concealed by a 6" deep hardwood
rubbing strake. An Iroko or Teak laid deck may be secured to the
deck as an optional extra. The rails are of hardwood fastened to 26
stanchions of 2" x 2" hardwood secured to the beamshelf
with stainless steel threaded rods. A hardwood capping rail is
fastened to the stanchions. Hardwood timbers support a
wide
taffrail across the counter. Four hardwood mooring kevels each
crossing two stanchions are fastened inside the rails. The rails are
notched into the
hardwood stempost. A galvanised stemband runs
from stemhead round the forefoot. Galvanised chainplates are bolted
through the hull and out over shaped hardwood channels. The channels
are drilled to accept beaching legs as an optional extra. The
coachroof sides are approx. 1" thick hardwood boards varnished
or oiled and are pierced with three bronze fixed oval portlights
and one opening bronze oval porthole in the heads . Two bronze round
opening portholes are
fitted in the forward end of the coachroof
On top of the coachroof there is a sliding hatch with hardwood
doors or wash boards. A double opening skylight can
also be
fitted as an optional extra. The forward hatch is fitted with an
dioptric decklight and one portlight is fitted through the hull side
in the forward cabin.
Handrails incorporating boathooks are
fitted to the coachroof.
COCKPIT: The standard boat has an open cockpit well with bridge deck giving a large amount of open deck aft in the style of the Essex Smack, with the rails offering adequate weather protection. Tiller steering is standard.
RIG: The mast and spars are built of Douglas fir, varnished
with white painted ends. All fittings are cast or forged galvanised
steel, leathered where necessary. Hardwood parrel beads are fitted.
Stainless steel standing rigging with whisker shrouds. The mast
is deck-stepped in a galvanised steel tabernacle and the
standing
rigging is set up with dead eyes. Galvanised belaying pins are
fitted to pinrails incorporated in the tabernacle assembly.
Running
rigging is natural laid Roblon traditionally spliced throughout.
Twenty 3"and 5" wooden blocks are rigged including fiddle
blocks for the main runners.
The bowsprit has been modified to
facilitate pontoon berthing. Although completely traditional in size
and appearance the heel is allowed to hinge upwards in
the
bitts. With the bobstay cast off and the jib halyard hooked on
the traveller and hauled out to the bowsprit end the bowsprit can be
topped up effortlessly
with the 3 : 1 jib halyard purchase. A
stopper knot on the bobstay tackle allows the spar to rest just
within the boat's length. Practised once or twice, the whole exercise
can take less than a minute and can be accomplished while approaching
the berth. The mast can be lowered and raised safely by two people
with the bowsprit in the topped up position. The running backstays
are led forward to act as sway braces, the forestay is let go and the
mast is eased back. The halyard
angle never becomes so flat as to
not allow complete control. The lowered mast can be brought forward
and stowed within the length of the boat for safer canal-
lock
manoeuvring. Mainsail and staysail are in tan terylene. The main is
fitted with reef pennants . Jib and topsail are in cream terylene. A
mainsail cover is supplied as standard.
ACCOMMODATION: The saloon and forecabin are fitted out in
varnished mahogany ply and trim. Upholstery is in fire retardant
foam; fitted covers are fully zipped with colours to owner's choice.
In the separate heads compartment which is fully epoxy scrimmed with
a sealed floor, well and pump, a toilet is fitted with
provision for a holding tank. A wash basin with tap and optional
shower attachment is fitted and dry storage space is provided under
and next to the sink. One oval opening portlight is fitted as is a
dome light. The galley is fitted with a two burner stove, sink and
tap, with various shelves and lockers and provision for the optional
fridge. Fresh water is contained in a flexible tank fitted in the
galley area and is filled via a bronze deck filler. Provision is made
for the optional fixed tanks and pumps providing hot and cold running
water. A chart table is fitted over the quarter berth
A double dinette provides seating for four or sleeping for two. The
fore-cabin is fitted with two fixed berths and two hanging lockers
with shelves behind. Plenty of storage space is provided throughout
under the seats, berths and in the galley rea.
The standard
layout is just one of many configurations. Depending on the owner's
requirements the accommodation plan can be altered to suit.
ENGINE: The boat is fitted with a 15 hp inboard diesel engine. The
stainless steel propshaft passes through a bronze tube with flexible
inboard bearing and a cutlass outboard bearing to turn a bronze three
blade 14" propellor. One rigid diesel tank is fitted and filled
via a bronze deck filler. Two batteries are fitted and power is led
through a safety switch to a fuse panel with adequate extra points
for extra equipment. Power is led to the masthead light via a conduit
up the centre of the mast.
Electric lights and equipment to
owner's specifications are optional extras.
The rudder is constructed in multi-layer ply and wrapped with epoxy scrim. The rudder swings on custom made stainless steel pintles and the stainless steel rudder stock turns on Nylatron bearings. The bronze rudder head allows the laminated tiller to be lifted clear of the cockpit.
All sizes and specifications are approximate
